Here are three hotels with real 24-karat gold-plated fittings but incredibly affordable rooms costing a mere VND500,000-3 million ($22-132) a night.

Billed as the world’s first gold-plated hotel, the Dolce by Wyndham Hanoi Golden Lake opened its doors in July 2020.

Located on the bank of Giang Vo Lake in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh District, the five-star hotel quickly garnered global attention for the real 24-karat gold coating its 120,000-square-meter exterior.

It has 324 rooms with bathtubs, sinks and toilets plated with gold and a gold tiled infinity pool on the rooftop. 

“There is no other hotel like this in the world,” Nguyen Huu Duong, chairman of Hoa Binh Group, which owns the property, had told Reuters in July 2020.

He said a ton (2,200 pounds) of gold had been used.
