According to Eastern culture, “Đoan Ngọ” day is the end of the crop. On this day, people burn incense to thank their Gods and celebrate successful harvest. From a long time ago, the sticky rice dumpling (bánh ú tro) is the symbol of “Đoan Ngọ” day with the triangle shape wrapped in bamboo leaves, golden brown inside. The cake became an indispensable offering on the ancestors’ altar on this occasion.
The ancients believed that the 5th lunar month is the hottest month for disease outbreaks, so “Bánh ú tro” will be the best dish to eat, providing a cool taste that helps neutralize harmful toxins in the body and keep us healthy.

Tết Đoan Ngọ diễn ra vào mỗi mùng 5 tháng 5 âm lịch hằng năm, là một ngày lễ quan trọng của người Việt từ xa xưa. Theo văn hóa của người phương đông, đây chính là thời khắc kết thúc vụ mùa, người dân làm lễ thắp hương để tạ ơn trời đất và mừng mùa vụ thành công.
Hình ảnh chiếc bánh tam giác có vị thanh, dẻo với màu nâu vàng, trong của hổ phách, được bao lá tre bên ngoài là món ăn thân thuộc mà mỗi người con Lạc Hồng đều đã từng nếm qua ít nhất một lần trong đời và không biết tự bao giờ, chiếc bánh ú thành lễ vật không thể thiếu trên bàn thờ gia tiên vào mỗi dịp Tết Đoan Ngọ.
Người xưa quan niệm rằng, tháng 5 âm lịch là thời điểm nắng nóng oi bức dễ sinh dịch bệnh, bánh tro có vị mát, ăn dễ tiêu, thích hợp với cả người già và trẻ nhỏ, khi ăn có thể giúp trung hòa bớt sự độc có hại trong cơ thể và bảo vệ sức khỏe.
